How do you get to Porters Lake?

We take Highway 107 east from Dartmouth. Exit 18 serves Mineville and Lake Echo, and Exits 19 and 20 serve Porters Lake, West Porters Lake Road and the road to Lawrencetown. Trunk 7 also runs through for the north end. We tell you the timing on the phone when you call.

A lake that turns salty toward the sea

Porters Lake runs up to 19 kilometres long and no more than one wide, and its south end opens to the Atlantic near Lawrencetown Beach. The water goes from nearly fresh at the north end to close to sea water at the south. Homes near the south end and along the Lawrencetown shore live with salt spray and coastal wind, which corrode locks, hinges and garage door springs far faster than inland.

Which side of the lake are you on?

Highway 107 crosses the lake, Trunk 7 runs north of it and Route 207 follows the west side past Porters Lake Provincial Park. A house on West Porters Lake Road and a house off the east side are reached from different exits, so tell us which shore you are on and the nearest cross road.

Lockouts on the Eastern Shore

Out here a lockout often means a house set back from Trunk 7, a cottage near the beach at Lawrencetown, or a truck outside the shops by the 107. Call or text with your civic number and road, and tell us which shore of the lake you are on. Our locked out page has the short list of what to try first. Locked out of a vehicle at the beach? See our car lockout page.

Garage doors in salt and wind

Springs, cables and rollers rust quickly this close to the ocean, and nor'easters push hard on wide garage doors. A door that shudders, sags on one side or will not close all the way is telling you something is about to give. We repair springs, cables, panels and openers around the clock. After a storm, check that the bottom seal still meets the floor and the door runs smoothly by hand before you rely on the opener again. More on our garage door repair service.

Rekeys for cottages and year-round homes

Lake houses and cottages collect keys: family, renters, neighbours who check on the place. Rekeying cancels every old key at once, and we can key the house, the shed and the garage door to one. Closer to town? We also cover Cole Harbour.

Car keys on the coast road

Lost the only key to a car parked at Lawrencetown Beach or by the provincial park, or a fob that stopped working after a day in the spray? We cut and program replacement keys and fobs where the vehicle is parked for most makes. Tell us the make, model and year when you call. If your car needs a dealer-only key, we tell you that on the phone so you are not waiting for nothing.

Questions from Porters Lake

Do you come out to Lawrencetown and Seaforth?
Yes. We cover Porters Lake, Lake Echo, Mineville, Lawrencetown, Seaforth, Three Fathom Harbour and West Chezzetcook, around the clock.
My front door lock is stiff from the salt air. Should I replace it?
Not always. Many corroded locks can be cleaned, lubricated and rekeyed. If a cylinder is too far gone, we show you and quote a replacement that holds up better on the coast before any work.
Can you fix a garage door spring at night?
Yes. A snapped spring is a call we take any hour. Leave the door down and do not force the opener, then call us.
