Any hour. A person answers.

Locked out of your car in Halifax?

Call or text us the year, make and model, and where the car is. We come at any hour, open most vehicles without harming the door or glass, and give you the price before we start.

You approve the price before we start. Not sure it's really us? See who's coming.

Can a locksmith get into my car without damaging it?

In most cases, yes. A trained locksmith uses purpose-made tools that work the lock or the inside door mechanism through the seal, so no glass is broken and no paint is scratched. The damage people fear comes from wedges and coat hangers.

Send the year, make and model

Each vehicle opens a little differently. With the year, make and model, and a photo of the driver's door if you can take one, we bring the right tools and give you a firm price before we set off.

Tell us where the keys are as well. On the seat, in the trunk, in the ignition, or gone. If they're gone, it's a car key job, and for most makes we cut and program a new key on site.

Opened, not forced

Our tools reach the lock or the door mechanism through the weather seal. Glass stays whole and paint stays clean. It's slow, careful work. Bent door frames and torn seals come from slim jims and hangers, not from a locksmith doing it properly.

When the weather is part of it

  • Door glazed shut by freezing rain? That's ice, not a lockout. Push firmly on the door around the edge to crack the ice before you pull, and don't yank the handle. No hot water on locks or seals, ever.
  • Salt on the door lock? Months of road salt can seize a door cylinder you hardly use. If the hidden key in your fob won't turn, stop before it bends and call us.
  • Fob dead on a damp, cold morning? Most fobs carry a small metal key inside. Look for a release button or slide. It opens the driver's door even when the battery won't.
  • Keys inside while it warms up? If the engine is running, go to keys locked in a running car.

If a child or a pet is locked in the car, call 911 first.

Proof that it's your car

Before we hand you an open car, we compare your ID with the registration or insurance card. If they're inside, we check once the door is open. It keeps us from opening cars for the wrong person, yours included.

Questions people ask

What should I tell you when I call?
The year, make and model, the address or the lot it's in, and where the keys are: in the car, in the ignition, or lost. A photo of the driver's door helps us bring the right tools and price the job.
Will you check that the car is mine?
Yes. We match your ID to the registration or insurance card before we leave you with an open car. If those papers are in the glovebox, we look at them as soon as the door opens.
The car is running with the keys inside. What changes?
It's more urgent, because of fuel and exhaust. If it's in a closed garage, open the big door and stay out of the garage. Then read our page on keys locked in a running car.
My keys are gone, not locked in. Can you still help?
Yes, though it becomes a car key job. For most makes we can open the car, then cut and program a replacement key right there.
Will you come to a parkade or a mall lot?
Yes. We come to the car wherever it is in HRM, from a downtown parkade to a lot in Dartmouth Crossing or a driveway in Tantallon, as long as we can get to the driver's door.
