Named for Captain Spry's field
Spryfield takes its name from Captain William Spry, who bought land here in 1769, and it was first called Spry's Field. It voted to join the City of Halifax in 1968 and was annexed in 1969, which is why it feels part city and part woods, with Long Lake Provincial Park and the McIntosh Run trail right behind the houses.
