Combination forgotten, keypad dark, key nowhere to be found, or a safe left behind in the house you just bought? We open home and business safes with non-destructive methods first, then reset the combination or service the lock so it doesn't happen again.

Will opening my safe damage it?
In many cases, no. A locked safe can often be opened by manipulating the dial, powering or replacing a dead keypad, or working the lock without forcing the door. Drilling is kept as a last resort, and when it is done correctly the hole is repaired and the safe goes back into service.
Why safes stop opening
A safe that won't open is rarely a broken safe. The person who knew the combination has moved on, the dial has drifted out of tolerance, the batteries have died, or the override key went missing in the last move. Damp storage plays a part too: a safe kept in a humid basement or a garage near the water can get stiff bolts, corroded battery contacts and a sluggish dial. Each of these has a fix that leaves the safe whole.
How we approach a locked safe
We start with the gentlest methods that suit your safe and lock. If those can't open it, we stop, explain why drilling is needed and how the safe will be repaired afterwards, and only continue once you agree. You stay in charge of the decision.
Safes we see
- At home: fire and document boxes, small digital safes in closets, and older dial safes that came with the house.
- At work: office safes, retail and restaurant safes, and drop safes. When an employee who knew the combination leaves, have it changed.
Your safe, your proof
Opening a safe gives access to everything inside. Before any work, we ask for photo ID and reasonable proof that the safe is yours. That check protects you first. To see how you can check us in return, read how we verify ourselves.
Once the door is open
We can set a new combination, swap a failing dial or keypad lock for a new one, and show you how to change the code yourself. If damp is the cause, we will point out what to change about where the safe is kept.
Arranging a visit
Send the make and model and a photo of the dial or keypad. We explain what we expect to do and the price before we start, and if the job turns out harder than expected, we pause and ask first, as our price promise explains. Safe work is part of our residential and commercial service across the communities on our areas page.

Questions people ask
- The keypad on my safe is blank. Is the safe broken?
- Usually the batteries are flat. Many electronic safes have outside battery terminals or an override key. Check the manual, and if that gets you nowhere, call us.
- We found a locked safe in the house we just bought. Can you open it?
- Yes. Bring your proof of ownership of the home, such as closing papers, and we will open it and set a new combination for you.
- What proof do you need before opening a safe?
- Photo ID and reasonable proof that the safe and its contents belong to you. We ask every customer, every time.
- Can the combination be changed once it's open?
- Yes, for most safe locks. If the lock is worn or failing, we can replace it with a new mechanical or electronic one.
- Do you work on gun safes?
- Give us the make and model when you call and we will confirm. The same ownership check applies.
