Commercial locksmith in Halifax, Nova Scotia
Shops, offices, clinics, warehouses and multi-unit buildings across HRM call us for the same few things: a key that left with a former employee, an exit device that has stopped latching, or a door count that has outgrown loose keys. We handle all of it, plus the overhead door at the back.

What can a commercial locksmith do for my business?
A commercial locksmith looks after the doors of a business: changing which keys work when people leave, fixing or fitting storefront locks, office locks and exit devices, designing master key systems, and installing card or fob entry. We also service overhead and loading doors, so one call covers the whole building.
The doors we look after
Downtown Halifax storefronts with aluminum frames, office suites in mid-rise buildings, clinics, restaurants with a back door onto the alley, warehouse man-doors in the business parks around Dartmouth and Bedford, and the common entrances of apartment buildings. Each uses different hardware, and we work on all of them.
Keys that walked out the door
When someone leaves on bad terms, or simply forgets to hand back a key, every door that key opens is now outside your control. Rekeying changes the pins so the old key stops working while the lock body stays put. For a business we start by mapping who needs to open what, then rekey in an order that keeps your team working, so the right people still have access the next morning.
Salt, damp and commercial hardware
Halifax is hard on exterior doors. Salt air near the harbour, road salt tracked across the threshold and constant freeze-thaw all work on cylinders, latches and strikes. Water gets into a lock, freezes overnight and the key won't turn at opening time. A door that drags or springs back is often a closer or hinge issue as much as a lock issue. We look at the whole door, tell you what we found and what we recommend, and only then start work.
Exit devices and panic bars
Push bars on rear exits, storefronts and stairwell doors get hard use and little attention until they fail. What we do:
- Fix what's failing. Latches that won't catch, bars that stick, dogging that won't hold, rods that have slipped, and devices bent in a break-in attempt.
- Fit new devices. A straight replacement for a worn unit, or a new exit device on a door that needs one, chosen for the door type and traffic.
- Add outside access. A lever trim or rim cylinder on the exterior so staff can come in with a key.
- Key it to the rest. The cylinder can match your other doors or join your master key system.
Comparing hardware types? Our guide to commercial door lock types walks through exit devices, mortise locks, levers and storefront deadbolts.
Outgrowing loose keys
More people and more doors means more copies in more pockets. Two ways to take control back:
- Master key systems give each person a single key that opens only their doors, with higher-level keys for managers. Restricted keyways stop casual copying.
- Access control swaps keys for cards, fobs or codes. A lost card is deleted, not rekeyed.
One number for the building
Locks, exit devices, master keying, card access, and the sectional or loading door out back covered on commercial garage doors. Property managers can open an account on the landlords page. Locked out today? Use business lockout. Booked work is quoted before we begin, as set out in our price promise, and we serve businesses across the communities on our areas page.

Questions people ask
- A manager quit and still has keys. How fast should we act?
- Treat it as urgent and rekey the doors that key opens, ideally before the next weekend. If this keeps happening, restricted keys in a master key system or switching to cards means the next departure costs you a few clicks instead of a visit.
- Our push bar door won't stay locked. Can you fix it?
- Yes. A bar that won't latch, won't dog down or won't hold the door locked is a common commercial repair. We adjust or rebuild the device where that's sound, and replace it where it isn't.
- Can staff get in through an exit door from outside?
- They can once the device has outside trim. We fit a keyed lever or a rim cylinder to the exterior so authorised people can enter, while the bar still lets everyone out.
- Can the work happen outside business hours?
- Booked commercial work can be planned for before opening, after closing or on a quiet day. Tell us when each door can be out of use and we schedule around it.
- We manage several buildings. Can we have an account?
- Yes. Property managers and landlords can set one up through the landlords page, with turnover rekeys, master keys and invoicing handled in one place.
- Nobody can get into the business right now.
- That is an emergency, not a booking. Go to the business lockout page or call us straight away.
